The Vierumäki Finnish Challenge supported by Finnish Golf Union will return to the HotelPlanner Tour schedule for a tenth time in 2026.
Yesterday, the 2026 Road to Mallorca schedule was announced, with the Cooke Course at Vierumäki in Finland named as a host venue once more, as part of a 28-tournament schedule that will span three continents.
The first edition of the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge took place in 2016, with the event being played in all but one year since, and will celebrate its tenth appearance on the global schedule from August 20-23.
In that time there have been several stand-out moments and impressive victors.
Sam Walker won the very first edition in 2016, carding rounds of 68-68-69-68 to secure a breakthrough victory on the HotelPlanner Tour.
Kim Koivu triumphed in dramatic fashion two years later to become the first Finn to win the event. Tied after 72 holes with Ryder Cup star Robert MacIntyre, Koivu would birdie the first extra hole to record his second victory of the season on his way to promotion to the DP World Tour.
Denmark’s Marcus Helligkilde would also earn promotion after winning in Finland, doing so in impressive fashion with a 23 under par total in 2021. An 11 under par opening round 61 and a hole-in-one during round two helped him on his way at Vierumäki.
In 2023, Lauri Ruuska became the second Finn to win the event as he eased to a seven-shot victory in front of friends and family. Ruuska made history in round one, becoming only the fourth player in HotelPlanner Tour history to shoot a round of 59 or better, and despite relinquishing his lead following round two, would bounce back on day three before moving clear in round four to cap a remarkable week.
