Increased prize money for The Open

The winner of the 2014 Open Championship will win £975,000.

The R&A has published the prize money for this year's tournament, revealing there will be a total of £5,400,000 on offer to those taking part at the 143rd Open Championship, which will be played at Royal Liverpool between July 17-20, an increase of £130,000 for the prize fund.

With an increase of £30,000 compared to last year's champion Phil Mickelson, the winner will take home a near-seven-figure sum as well as the famous Claret Jug.

Prize money shall be allocated only to professional golfers.
If more than 70 professional golfers qualify for the final two rounds, additional prize money will be added. Prize money will decrease by £100 per qualifying place above 70 to a minimum of £9,000.
Non-qualifiers after two rounds: Leading 10 professional golfers and ties £3,800; next 20 professional golfers and ties £3,100; remaining professional golfers £2,600.
