Late show sends Scott soaring
To leap into the lead once with a closing eagle is a good party trick, to do it twice is just showing off. Adam Scott netted a big bird for the second day in a row on Saturday to move to 11 under and lead by one from Adrian Meronk. The home hero is seeking a second Australian Open title and is certainly not short of belief he can lift the trophy again. "I believe I’m going to do it but without using clichés, there’s no point thinking about my winner’s speech right now," he said. "I’ve got a long way to navigate my round, get around the course tomorrow, but I absolutely believe I’m going to do it. If you don’t believe in it, then you won’t do it."
Meronk goes low to get in the hunt
When Adrian Meronk carded an opening 73 on Thursday, it looked like he would be more likely to be fighting to make the cut than take the title. A 66 and a 63 - matching the course record at Victoria Golf Club and his personal best on the DP World - later and he is right in the mix for a second win. "I love it," he said. "You want to be in this position going especially into Sunday. I feel really good about my game. I got familiar with the course so I’m going to enjoy tomorrow. I know my game, I know if I play like I did today I can shoot really low scores. I’ll just focus on that and that’s all I can do. Hopefully it’ll be enough at the end of the day."
Women's event set for thrilling conclusion
The men's and women's ISPS HANDA Australian Opens are being played together this week over the same courses for equal prize money and the ladies event is set up for a thrilling conclusion. Two-time Women's Open Champion Jiyai Shin carded a 67 on day three to lead by one shot from reigning champion at that event Ashleigh Buhai, with 2019 PGA Championship winner Hannah Green a further shot back. Home favourite Green is certain to draw a big crowd to the final three-ball and we could be in for a sensational Sunday.
Brilliant Barkley bursts ahead
The 2023 G4D Tour has started this week with the Australian All Abilities Championship @ the ISPS HANDA Australian Open and Kurtis Barkley has put himself in pole position for a maiden win. The Canadian fired a brilliant three-under-par 69 on Saturday to get to two under and open up a three-shot lead. He will have to be at his very best to maintain that advantage, though, with World Number One Kipp Popert - a four-time G4D Tour winner last season - his nearest challenger.

The 12th hole was not looking good for our final group, with Scott going left off the tee and Josh Geary heading right. The Kiwi then did this.
