ISPS HANDA Australian Open - Day two digest

Everything you need to know from Friday in Melbourne.

Scott and Green delighted the home faithful, Popert proved he is still the man to beat and Micheluzzi was making dreams come true in round two of the ISPS HANDA Australian Open.

Here is everything you need to know from the second day's action at Victoria and Kingston Heath Golf Clubs.

Great Scott hits the top

Whenever there is an event in Australia, all eyes are on former World Number One Adam Scott and Aussie eyes were smiling in Melbourne as the local hero carded a stunning 63.Whether it was long putts from off greens or precise irons on par threes, the 2013 Masters Tournament Champion was on song en route to an eight under par total and a share of the lead. "Hopefully I can keep running in this direction tomorrow," he said. "It’s always nice when the tournament can take a lot of players out of it. If I can play well tomorrow and anyone else can come with and it’s only a few guys in it, that’d be a great position for Sunday. Then maybe I have some advantage from experience."

Micheluzzi ready to live the dream

David Micheluzzi started the day with a three-shot lead and while he was reined in by Scott after a 71, he was still happy with his position heading into the weekend, not least because he gets to play with an Australian great. "It's one of the things I've dreamed of," he said. "Australian Open with Scotty, it will be insane. The amount of people that will be there and all that will be pretty cool. I'm just looking forward to it. I'm just going to go out and play some golf. If it's good enough it's good enough, if not, won't stress. I know I'm playing good golf going into next year or going into the next couple of events after this. I'll just keep plugging away at it and if it happens, it happens. If not, then so be it, go on to the next one."

Green makes it an Aussie double at the top

The men's and women's ISPS HANDA Australian Opens are taking place concurrently this week, with both fields playing the same courses for an equal 1.7 million Australian dollar prize fund. In the women's event, Hannah Green fired a 66 to get to 11 under and open up a two-shot lead over Jiyai Shin, and she was delighted to see the Australian public getting behind the golfing extravaganza. "I feel like every shot I hit, everyone was applauding whether it was a good or bad one so it always brought a smile to my face, I hope they keep it up over the weekend," she said. "I imagine tomorrow and Sunday there'll be a lot so bring it on."

Popert leads again

The new G4D Tour season got under way on Friday with the Australian All Abilities Championship @ the ISPS HANDA Australian Open welcoming a 12-person field to Melbourne. It may have been a new season but the narrative was very similar to the 2022 campaign as World Number One Kipp Popert - a four-time winner in the inaugural season - fired a 71 to lead the way at one under.

Anything you can do

It was the G4D Tour that produced possibly the moment of the day as first Kurtis Barkley produced this piece of magic on the last.

But not to be outdone, Tommaso Perrino responded with this.

Take a bow, gentlemen.
