Kennedy keeps calm to reach weekend on European Tour debut

Frank Kennedy continued his meteoric rise by reaching the weekend on his European Tour debut at the 2021 Hero Open.

The 15-year-old amateur, who spends most of the year based in Florida, has already mixed with some of the sport's greatest stars including a nine hole match play with former World Number One Ernie Els in 2020.

Attached to Trump National Jupiter in Florida, Kennedy played with former president of the United States of America Donald Trump earlier this year and was also photographed with 18 time Major Championship winner Jack Nicklaus at the same venue.

But he proved he has the ability to compete on the European Tour after making the cut with a calm birdie on his 36th hole.

The Englishman was among one of the late starters on Friday and, due to the three hour and 20 minute delay, was forced to finish the final two holes of his second round on Saturday morning.

He was on the cut line when he returned to Fairmont St Andrews but a bogey at the 17th hole looked to have ended his first European Tour start.

However, the amateur rolled in a birdie at the last to make the weekend field, and he pushed on in the third round.

Kennedy, starting on the back nine, dropped a shot at the 13th but hit back with birdies at the 14th and 15th to get back in the red numbers.

He climbed to two under with another at 18th, but a double bogey at the first and dropped shot at the fifth saw him slip to one over for the tournament.

Kennedy wrote on Instagram after his third round: "Not my best 18 holes today - started strongly to be 2 under at the turn but hit a brick wall on the back nine and scrambled hard to come away with a 1 over card - even got a bit of TV action.

"Looking forward to final round tomorrow. Thanks again for all the positive messages."
