Levy looking to rediscover winning formula in China

Alexander Levy is aiming to strengthen his promotion chances with victory when he tees it up in the Hainan Open at Sanya Luhuitou Golf Club this week.

The Frenchman is no stranger to success in China, with two of his five DP World Tour titles to date coming in the Middle Kingdom, in the 2014 and 2017 editions of the Volvo China Open.

Levy returns to the country for the second time this year, fuelling hopes of ending his six-year title drought and securing his promotion back to golf’s Global Tour.

“For me, China works pretty well,” he said. “It’s a country I like to go and it’s nice here.

“I have won twice here before and I have many good memories. I’m always pleased to get back here and play golf because I know it fits my game.”

Levy is currently eighth in the Road to Mallorca Rankings and has been close to securing a first Challenge Tour title on multiple occasions during 2024, with second-place finishes coming in the Abu Dhabi Challenge and the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge supported by Finnish Golf Union.

The 34-year-old knows the significance of getting a good result during back-to-back event weeks on his return to China, and vows to ‘get the job done’ with three events left on the 2024 Challenge Tour schedule.

“Getting back to the DP World Tour is definitely my goal for this year,” he added. “I need to get the job done. I have three weeks to do that and I’ll try my best. It has been a long season and it’s coming to an end.

“I’m pretty pleased with how I played at the start of the season. I haven’t played my best recently, but I’m in good shape and I just have to stay patient and do my best.”

Levy is part of a strong field in China that includes two-time DP World Tour winner Lucas Bjerregaard and Road to Mallorca Number Three Joakim Lagergren.

The first round of the Hainan Open gets under way on Thursday at 7:10am local time with Levy teeing off alongside Bjerregaard from Denmark and Englishman Brandon Robinson Thompson at 12:15pm.
