This year’s Investec South African Open Championship gave some young aspiring golfers a day they will never forget as they got to watch and learn from the professionals at Durban Country Club.
Golf RSA and the South African Golf Development Board came together to help 12 youngsters from the GolfSixes League in KwaZulu Natal get up close to their favourite stars in the Pro-Am.
They got to walk nine holes with the likes of local heroes Charl Svhwartzel and Casey Jarvis before DP World Tour star Wilco Nienaber and Sunshine Tour regular Rupert Kaminski gave them some tips in a clinic on the practice area.
“GolfSixes League is all about growing the game of golf, getting beginners into the game of golf and what better way to do that than bringing kids from the South African Golf Development Board,” said Michael Johnston, GolfSixes Project Manager at Golf RSA.
“It’s a very big event at the SA Open, co-sanctioned with the DP World Tour, and we just want to give the kids an opportunity to learn new skills, get into the game and improve their short game.”
