Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald is set to compete in the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, which takes place at The Belfry from August 21-24.
The former World Number One and 2023 Ryder Cup-winning captain is the first name confirmed to tee it up on the iconic Brabazon Course as he continues his preparations for another landmark year as he bids to lead Team Europe to victory at Bethpage Black in September.
Donald, a seven-time DP World Tour winner, has been a standout figure in European golf for over two decades and will return for the second consecutive year to the Betfred British Masters, a key fixture in the Back 9 on the DP World Tour schedule with Denmark’s Niklas Nørgaard the most recent champion after earning his maiden title in England last year.
Hosted by six-time Major Champion Sir Nick Faldo, this year’s edition promises another exciting week of world-class golf at a venue steeped in Ryder Cup history. The Belfry, which has hosted the biennial contest on four occasions, provides a fitting backdrop for Donald, who is no stranger to success in team golf and individual competition alike.
"The Belfry holds a special place in British golf history, and I’m thrilled to be competing at the Betfred British Masters again,” he said.
“The support from the crowds last year was incredible, and I’m looking forward to another fantastic week. It’s always a privilege to play in front of home fans, and with the added excitement of this being a Ryder Cup year, it’s going to be a special event.
“This year’s Betfred British Masters is the final counting event in the qualification period for the Ryder Cup, so I will be keeping a keen eye on who will be trying to play their way into the six automatic qualifiers, or putting themselves in contention for a pick.”
Tournament host Faldo, a former World Number One and Ryder Cup Captain himself, welcomes Donald’s participation as he prepares to host the event for the third time.
"Having Luke in the field adds so much to the event,” said Sir Nick. “He’s been an incredible ambassador for European golf, both as a player and a captain, and fans will love seeing him compete at The Belfry.
“It’s a venue that has played a huge role in Ryder Cup history, and as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the historic first European victory over the Brabazon Course, it’s only fitting that Luke is here in the build-up to another big year for him and Team Europe."
Donald’s presence at The Belfry will undoubtedly be a highlight of the week, as fans get a chance to watch one of Europe’s most respected golfers in action. With a world-class field set to compete and The Belfry’s signature drama sure to unfold, the 2025 Betfred British Masters is shaping up to be another unforgettable edition.
