Manuel Elvira felt selective aggression was the key as he reached the halfway point of the 2026 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in third place.
The Spaniard started and finished his round with bogeys but made seven birdies in between for a 67 to follow up his opening 68 and leave him nine under par, three shots off the lead held by Casey Jarvis.
"It was pretty good, I hit the ball really well and I managed to stay in position pretty much all day," he said.
"I had a bit of a scare on number six, I had two bad swings, but I ended up finding my first ball and making par so that was good.
"It was definitely easier than yesterday, it was a bit less wind so that made it a bit easier for all of us, and we just have to do the same thing - stay in position and the birdies will come."
Elvira started with a bogey at the tenth but bounced back in style with birdies at each of the next four holes.
Another at the 18th and two more at the fifth and seventh, the latter after a marvellous tee-shot over the large lake that dominates the intimidating par three, left him in a strong position despite dropping a shot at the difficult ninth, his final hole of the day.
"I was aggressive when I had to (be) and conservative when I had to," he said. "When I didn't have a shot that I really liked I just played for the middle of the green and sometimes I made a par, and when I had a short iron on a par five I tried to be more aggressive.
"It was fun, it was a bit weird today with pulling out the umbrella every two minutes, but other than that it was nice, it was enjoyable. It's a nice course and a beautiful place."
The 29-year-old, looking for his maiden DP World Tour victory to join elder brother Nacho in the winners' circle, said: "I'm really looking forward to it, I haven't been in this position for a while so I'm happy to be back on top and I'll try to do my best on the weekend."
