Martin Couvra may be a winner on the DP World Tour but the Frenchman has no intention of stopping there as he continues his dream rookie campaign at the Soudal Open.
The 22-year-old HotelPlanner Tour graduate, touted as a future star by many within the game, entered the winner’s circle on golf’s Global Tour for the first time earlier this month with an impressive victory at the Turkish Airlines Open.
He is at a career-high 139th in the Official World Golf Ranking and lies eighth in the season-long Race to Dubai Rankings ahead of his debut at Rinkven International Golf Club in Belgium.
But, while he has plenty of momentum behind him with five top tens prior to his win in Türkiye, he is aware he has room for improvement if he is to maintain his upward trajectory in the game.
"I’m pretty happy to prove myself by winning a tournament on this Tour, but I still have some work to do this a couple of times (more)," he said.
With his newly acquired winner's category, Couvra is assured of playing at all Rolex Series events moving forward, and is in line to qualify for the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai as one of the top-50 ranked players on Tour.
"It [the win in Türkiye] is very nice because I can book my schedule," he added.
"It’s more and more simple for the rest of the year. I will for sure play in Abu Dhabi for the first tournament [of the DP World Tour Play-Offs] at the end of the season and for sure the Scottish Open and [BMW PGA Championship] at Wentworth. They’re going to be such a nice couple of weeks. It's going to be great."
That security will not only see him compete against the best of the best, but enable him to pick and choose which and how many events suit him for the rest of the year, with this week being an event he grew up watching as a youngster.
"I’m happy to be here and to be back on Tour on the European schedule," he said.
"It’s such a nice week here. I watched this tournament on TV when I was younger. So, I feel happy to be here.
"I'm pretty confident with my game. I played really good the last couple of weeks, so I'm just trying to do the same things on the golf course, have a good mindset and good chats with my caddie.
"I have only played the last nine holes yesterday and I loved it. It's like a little garden with some trees and some flowers. It's a very nice course."
