The Frenchman arrives at this week’s BMW International Open in third place, behind only Ryder Cup stars Rory McIlroy and Tyrrell Hatton, on the season-long standings which determine who lifts the Harry Vardon Trophy.

A graduate of the HotelPlanner Tour last year, he won his maiden title as a professional at the Turkish Airlines Open in May and has since added two further top tens, taking his tally for the campaign to seven.

The latest of those came with a runner-up finish at last week’s Italian Open, a result which lifted him to the summit of the European Swing Rankings - with a $US200,000 bonus on offer for the winner - and secured his Major Championship debut at The Open later this month.

But with lots of big events to come, including a Rolex Series debut at the Genesis Scottish Open next week ahead of the start of the Back 9 next month, Couvra is not resting on his laurels.

"I’m feeling really good," he said. "It’s my first time here in Munich, first time on this golf course, and first time playing this event so I’m just really happy to be here.

"I’m also really happy with where my game is right now, especially over the last few weeks. There have been a lot of positives.

"I feel great about my position. Every week, I just try to play good golf, and to be in this spot going into the weekend is really nice. Now the goal is to finish the job.

"It’s also a great feeling to be just behind guys like Tyrrell and Rory. Of course, there’s still a lot of golf left to play this year, so while it’s a great place to be right now, the real goal is to still be in this position come the end of the season."

However he fares this week, with the 22-year-old one of seven players in with a chance of winning the European Swing, he is already looking forward to the start of the Closing Swing and an exciting two weeks on the British Isles.

"I’m also really proud and excited to be playing the Scottish Open next week," he added.

"It’s honestly one of the best tournaments I’ll have ever played, and then The Open at Royal Portrush. A Major.

"Two very special weeks ahead, and I’m just really happy to be part of them."

Couvra has quickly adjusted to the demands of playing new courses in his first season on the DP World Tour and appeared to take a quick liking to Golfclub München Eichenried, making an albatross in the Pro-Am earlier on Wednesday.

“That was my first ever, and actually the first one I’ve ever seen in person,” he said.

“It was pretty special, and I was lucky to have the camera on me for that moment.”
