Colin Montgomerie is closing in on a successful defence of the Travis Perkins Masters after extended his advantage in the final round at Woburn Golf Club.
The double Senior Major Champion reached the turn in 33 shots after three birdies and one bogey on the front nine, while his closest rival Mike Cunning dropped shots on the seventh and ninth holes having started with two birdies in the opening five holes.
That meant the 2010 European Ryder Cup Captain, who began the day with a three stroke lead, took a six stroke advantage into the back nine of the Duke’s Course.
Montgomerie won by the same margin 12 months ago, and he is aiming to become only the second player after Carl Mason in 2006-07 to retain the title.
