Oosthuizen shows his class

Defending champion Louis Oosthuizen produced some sublime golf on day two of the Africa Open to storm into a four shot clubhouse lead.

The former Open Champion looked ominously sharp from tee to green as he carded an 11 under par 62 at East London Golf Club – only one outside Richard Sterne’s course record.

The 29 year old began the day with a birdie at the ninth, and added four further gains in a back-nine 32.

He birdied the first, and picked up another shot when he two-putted the third after finding the green in two.

Oosthuizen almost chipped in for eagle at the fifth, the ball lipping out and leaving a simple birdie chance, before the three-time European Tour winner finally got his eagle at the next.

Oosthuizen found the green at the 308 yard par four with a three wood, then sunk a 50 foot putt for a two, before finishing his round with a curling 25 foot birdie putt two holes later.

At 15 under par Oosthuizen held a three shot lead over his fellow South African Tjaart Van der Walt, who was eight under for his round with three to play.

The 37 year old’s round included back-to-back eagles with a hole in one coming courtesy of a six iron at the 193 yard second followed by a three at the 506 yard next.

Scottish pair Craig Lee and Alastair Forsyth were joined in a tie for third on 11 under by overnight leader Thomas Aiken and England’s rising star and Challenge Tour graduate Tommy Fleetwood – who playing in the same group as Oosthuizen carded a 66.

With the third member of the group, Jaco Van Zyl, adding a 65, the trio had signed for a combined 26 under par.
