Past Master Westwood to return to Crans Montana

Lee Westwood has confirmed he will play the Omega European Masters, a tournament he won in 1999, for the 14th time in his career, joining World Number Eight and defending champion Alex Noren in what is set to be another top class field at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club from September 7-10.

The Englishman, who finished fourth in Crans-Montana last year, brings with him a pedigree few in the world game can match, with 23 European Tour victories throughout a stellar career that in 2010 saw him reach Number One in the Official World Golf Ranking.

The 44 year old twice topped the European Tour’s Order of Merit, in 2000 and 2009, and has been the backbone of the European Ryder Cup team for the last 20 years, taking part in all ten contests since making his debut in 1997.

More names will be announced soon for the Swiss event that takes place in September, with memories still strong of the thrilling conclusion to last year’s contest.

Noren had led by two shots with nine holes to play before Australian Scott Hend pulled level over the closing stretch, forcing a play-off.

The Swede hit his approach on the first extra hole to 30 feet before holing the birdie putt for a second victory in the tournament following his 2009 triumph.

Noren has been one of the form golfers in the world over the past 12 months, his Omega European Masters win one of five, including the 2017 BMW PGA Championship.
