Ian Poulter is looking for as high a finish as possible over the next four days at The Barclays Scottish Open even though no winner of this tournament has gone on to take The Open Championship as well.
"Listen, if I've got a chance on Sunday afternoon and I need to make three or four down the last I'll be trying to make three or four down the last for sure," said the World Number 16 ahead of the Loch Lomond event.
"I don't believe in all that wives' tale stuff."
Last year's Open Championship runner-up - he had finished 25th in The Barclays Scottish Open seven days earlier – added: "I've had a lot of success around this golf course and it would be nice to carry the form into the British Open with another strong week this week."
With four points out of five at The Ryder Cup and another second place at the Players Championship in May, Poulter is brimming with confidence about his prospects.
"There's a lot that's happened last year which I think has changed my view on how I play golf and has helped me into becoming more consistent."
Another player really looking forward to the next two weeks is Scot Martin Laird, who qualified for The Open Championship in America and after gaining a US PGA Tour card is better known on that side of the Atlantic.
"It's obviously brilliant to be back in Scotland and a little bit different feeling than normal," he said. "I've never come back and played golf before.
"I try to get back twice a year, but the last few years I've only come back once for three or four weeks over Christmas.
"I live in Arizona and am settled there. I wish I could come back and play more over here, but I've not quite had the success yet on the US PGA Tour where I can afford to take many weeks off and come back and play in Europe.
"Hopefully in the next few years I can get to that level where I can.
"I'm obviously excited to play The Open next week, but I'm just excited to play here this week.
"It not like I'm treating this as a warm-up. I want to come here and play well."
