European Golfer of the Year, Lee Westwood, served up a golfing feast fit for a king at Saujana as his regal team won the Pro-Am curtain-raiser before the Benson & Hedges Malaysian Open, presented by Carlsberg.
The World No8 partnered King Tuanka Jaafar of Malaysia and their other amateur partners to victory with a 14-under-par score of 58 over the demanding Palm Course at Saujana Golf and Country Club, Kuala Lumpur.
"We had a great time out there" said Westwood, who won the tournament two years ago and finished runner-up last season before it became a co-sanctioned event between the Asian PGA and European Tour.
"The King enjoyed himself and isn’t a bad competitor off a handicap of 18. He really enjoys his golf and he was recalling how he followed me every step of the way on the final day last year. Even now he can remember every shot I played.
"We managed to come home in 27 today. I started back with three birdies and the King managed to come in a couple of times."
Scotland’s Andrew Coltart - Westwood’s brother-in-law - and Darren Clarke, were also involved in the Royal party. Coltart partnered Queen Tuanka Najihah and her daughter, Princess Puteri Jawahir, to a team score of 66 while Clarke played with Prince Tuanka Naquddin and finished tied 13th on 64.
Pakistan professional Taimur Hussain was second on 59 by virtue of a better inward half from the team lead by Australian Bonhomme.
