Jon Rahm made his first European Tour win a Rolex Series event with an utterly dominant record-breaking victory at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Hosted by the Rory Foundation.
The Spaniard entered the final day at Portstewart Golf Club with a share of the lead but produced a brilliant closing 65 to get to 24 under and romp home by six shots.
His total to par is the lowest in the event's history by three shots and is also the lowest of the season, beating Brandon Stone's 22 under par total at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
Scot Richie Ramsay and England's Matthew Southgate were his nearest challengers, with Ramsay earning himself a place at the Open Championship alongside countryman David Drysdale and New Zealander Ryan Fox who were a further shot back.
World Number 13 Justin Rose and American Daniel Im also finished at 17 under, with Drysdale producing the lowest round of the week on Sunday with seven closing birdies in a 63.
The victory will move Rahm back into the top ten in the Official World Golf Ranking and he joins Seve Ballesteros, José María Olazábal and Sergio Garcia on an illustrious list of Spanish winners of Ireland's Open.
"It's such a great honour now just to be part of the history of this event," said Rahm, who takes home 1,166,660 dollars. "Such a great country, such a great history in the tournament and such a great golf course. To me it's such a great week, it really is special for me to share it with three of my heroes.
"I've been saying, I haven't played my best golf and today, for 15 holes, I played the best golf I can ever play on the golf course with the weather that we had. Obviously the bonus of holing out on four was great.
"Man, this is a nice feeling."
The 22 year old needed a smart par save on the second but produced something truly special on the fourth. He had 150 yards left into the par five and saw his approach take two hops, check right and roll into the cup for an eagle and a two-shot lead.
The lead was up to three when he took advantage of the next par five on the seventh and an approach to eight feet on the eighth moved him four clear.
Rahm's drive on the ninth left him just 30 yards in and another birdie saw him turn five ahead, and when he got in tight on the tenth, the lead was half a dozen shots.
The lead was cut to four but a second eagle of the day thanks to a lengthy putt on the 14th essentially sealed the win before a bogey-birdie-bogey finish.
Ramsay carded a closing 65 with two bogeys and an eagle while Southgate's closing birdie that brought a wild celebration was his seventh in a 66.
Finishing birdies from Mike Lorenzo-Vera and Alexander Björk denied Fox an Open spot last week at the HNA Open de France but he had no such trouble on Sunday as he carded a 68.
Im needed a par up the last to secure his spot at Royal Birkdale but his bogey to complete a 72 handed the place to Drysdale on virtue of World Ranking.
Rose closed with a 68 to finish a shot ahead of French duo Benjamin Hebert and Julien Quesne and two ahead of English pair Tommy Fleetwood and Oliver Fisher, and Japanese Hideto Tanihara.
