RECORDS BROKEN OR EQUALLED AT THE 2003 CANARIES OPEN DE ESPAÑA
• The lowest 36 hole cut in European Tour history – 138 (-6), beating the previous record of -5 at the 1992 BMW International Open, 1996 Volvo German Open and 1997 BMW International Open
• Finland’s Mikko Ilonen equalled The European Tour record for the most eagles in a single round. He made four eagles and collected a further two birdies in Round Two. Gordon Brand Jnr is the only other player to record four in round at the 1986 Jersey Open at La Moye
• Round One saw 133 players better the par of 72; the most in a single day’s play in European Tour history. Of the 156 competitors who began the event, 133 broke par, a further ten shot level par and only 13 were over the par of 72
• A total of 137 players completed the first 36 holes under par – a European Tour record for the most competitors under par after two rounds
• Spanish amateur Pablo Martin created European Tour history by becoming the first amateur to share the lead going into the final round of a European Tour event. Pablo is the first amateur to lead or have a share of the lead at the end of a days play since Niels Boysen, headed the field after round one of the 2001 TNT Open
