Rock rolls on in Germany

Robert Rock produced a big finish against Raphaël Jacquelin to progress to the last 16 at the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play.

The Englishman - looking for a first European Tour win in five years - was one down stood on the 16th tee but went birdie-birdie to turn the tables and when Jacquelin found the water on the last, the Frenchman was heading home.

The Beckenbauer Course at Golf Resort Bad Griesbach was playing host to the event for the first time and German Florian Fritsch was giving the home fans something to cheer about in his match against Lucas Bjerregaard.

A poor start from the Dane allowed Fritsch to get three up after three holes and while Bjerregaard birdied the eighth and ninth, a win on the 11th from Fristch left him two up with three to play and on the verge of victory.

Defending champion Anthony Wall was in trouble against Haydn Porteous at two down after 12 holes.

Wall was one up after seven holes but the South African won the eighth and ninth and although Wall eagled the tenth, Porteous hit back to win the 11th and 12th.

China's Ashun Wu was the best scorer of the morning so far and he was six under in getting two up against Swede Rikard Karlberg with four holes to play.

Ryder Cup winner Jamie Donaldson lost the first two holes against Spaniard Jorge Campillo but won the third, fourth, sixth, eighth and tenth to go three up after 13 holes.

Chris Paisley was also three up after 13 in his all English clash against Nathan Kimsey.

Another Englishman, Ashley Chesters, was two up against Italy's Edoardo Molinari after 11 holes, with another Italian in Nino Bertasio all square against Spaniard Adrian Otaegui after ten.
