Marc Farry, who played the front nine on the first day in 31, followed his opening 65 - one behind leader David Higgins - with a 67 with which he eventually became the eighth first-time winner of the 1996 European Tour as torrential rain throughout the weekend proved too much for the course to absorb. It was an outstanding second round by Farry - he began with four birdies over the front nine and holed a 130 yards wedge shot for an eagle two at the 12th.
