Mark McNulty celebrated the joint staging by the South African and European Tours of this event with a four shot victory over the demanding Gary Player course. A course record 64 by South African Brendan Pappas in the third round saw McNulty's halfway lead reduced from four to one, but after waiting 17 months for a victory the Zimbabwean was in no mood to relax. When threatened with trouble at the 15th his escape route was to finesse a perfectly judged recovery shot straight into the hole, and his closing 73 secured victory over Ricky Willison, Nick Price and Pappas.
