Lee Westwood was one of six players at three under par - two shots behind Thomas Bjorn - when the final round began. His first task was to birdie the 17th hole which enabled him to match the closing 68s of Paul Broadhurst and Russell Claydon for a seven under par 281 three-way tie. Then he had to scramble a par four with a chip and a putt at the first extra hole to stay alive with Claydon, after Broadhurst bogeyed. Next he holed a 50-foot putt for a winning birdie at the second extra hole - "incredible!" he puffed.
