Jonathan Lomas made it 12 first-time winners on the 1996 European Tour. He went into the final round two strokes behind joint leaders Daniel Chopra and Gary Orr, but with a four-under-par run for the first 11 holes took the outright lead. Lee Westwood momentarily moved alongside him, and Raymond Russell initially set the target with a closing 66, but Lomas, despite a bogey at the 16th, triumphed with a pitching wedge to 12 feet for a birdie at the 18th although Chopra narrowly failed with an eagle attempt at the 17th.
