Greg Turner celebrated the announcement that New Zealand would host the 1998 World Cup of Golf by bravely getting up and down at the last to win after Colin Montgomerie had accelerated through the field. Montgomerie jumped from tied 57th at the half-way stage to runner-up by following a 67 with a course record 63. Turner, bunkered at the last, came out to six feet and holed for his win.
