Thomas Bjorn shared the lead with Jean Van de Velde on the last day, but bogeyed the second. Bjorn, however, was ahead after the third, level at the turn and then in front again when Van de Velde bogeyed the 12th. Bjorn birdied the 13th and moved three ahead after the 14th then stayed composed to become not only the 13th first time winner on the 1996 European Tour but also the first Danish champion in the Tour's history.
