Wayne Riley captured his first Volvo Tour title from Nick Faldo and Colin Montgomerie over Carnoustie's famous links. Five shots ahead after 54 holes, Riley moved further ahead with a birdie at the eighth as Faldo dropped shots at the fourth and fifth. Faldo closed the gap to three with birdies at the sixth, seventh, eighth, and 13th, after Riley had dropped a shot at the seventh. Riley dropped another shot at the 16th but regained the advantage with a 25 foot birdie at the 17th and parred the last. Faldo birdied the 18th to take second place, with Montgomerie finishing strongly with three birdies in the last five holes to finish third.
