Per-Ulrik Johansson made a successful defence of the title he won on the same course the previous year, this time with a stunning 21-under-par winning score of 267. A second round 64 took him to the halfway lead, he was four clear of Costantino Rocca after three rounds and he won by six from Peter Baker in front of record crowds for a European Open. "The Irish crowds are the best in the world and I wish every week was like this," said Johansson.
