The fate of The Ryder Cup is hanging in the balance as Europe look to retain the trophy against an inspired US Team at Valhalla Golf Club.
Europe were looking for a fast start but Sergio Garcia in the top match was unable to deliver as Anthony Kim produced all the fireworks and moved into a significant lead before winning by a comfortable 5 and 4 margin to put the first red point on the board in the singles.
But thereafter, in match two Paul Casey was locked in a titanic battle against Hunter Mahan as the United States got early red on the board and immediately this match had the look of a tie which could determine the ultimate outcome.
Matches three and four were going the way of Nick Faldo’s side with Swede Robert Karlsson was three up on Justin Leonard through nine holes, while Justin Rose was three ahead at the turn against Phil Mickelson.
The American’s looked to be in control of game five, where Henrik Stenson trailed Kenny Perry by three holes after seven.
Boo Weekley was also up against rookies Oliver Wilson but there was little separating the last six matches on the course and The 2008 Ryder Cup looked destined to go right to the wire.
