Ricardo Santos joined Lee Westwood at the top of the leaderboard as the second round of the Maybank Malaysian Open began at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club.
England’s Westwood had led Ryder Cup team-mate Nicolas Colsaerts by a shot after a seven under par 65 on day one, and the 40 year old’s advantage remained intact as 15 groups returned early on Friday to complete their opening rounds following a lightning delay on Thursday.
But once the second round kicked off, 31 year old Santos joined Westwood on seven under courtesy of birdies at the first and seventh.
That put Santos, who made his name with victory at the 2012 Madeira Islands Open on home soil, and Westwood one clear of Colsaerts, the Belgian another of the afternoon starters.
Northern Ireland’s Michael Hoey had been joined on five under by Antonio Lascuna as the Filipino birdied three of his first four holes.
Garth Mulroy, Julien Quesne, Masahiro Kawamura and Jbe Kruger were all a stroke further back on four under.
