Scottie Scheffler won his third Major Championship at the 2025 US PGA Championship after holding off a strong challenge from Jon Rahm.
The World Number One began the day with a three-shot lead over playing partner and nearest challenger Alex Noren and extended his advantage to five early on Sunday before the fightback came.
Rahm briefly drew level at nine under par but Scheffler found his form on the back nine to again pull clear, eventually winning by five shots on 11 under par.
That saw him add the Wanamaker Trophy to his Masters green jackets from 2022 and 2024 and he said: "I'm just really proud of the way we fought this week.
"I was down on myself the first couple of days, I didn't have as good a prep week as I would have hoped to, and it was battle out there for the four days."
Scheffler bogeyed the first after finding a bunker with his approach shot, as did Noren. Both men sent their second tee shots into the left-hand trees but Scheffler escaped to the green and holed for a birdie to move four strokes clear.
Scheffler again found sand at the next, with Noren in the heart of the green, but the American came within two inches of holing the bunker shot as both walked off with pars.
A bogey for Noren at the next extended his deficit to five and left him tied with Rahm, Davis Riley and Harris English, who had set an early clubhouse mark of six under thanks to a superb 65.
Rahm made an excellent par save at the fourth and required another good putt at the fifth after leaving his chip well short before missing a half-chance for birdie at the seventh.
Scheffler refused to open the door, holing an 18-foot left-to-right par putt at the fifth after three poor shots in.
He did drop a shot at the next and the group at six under swelled with birdies for Adam Scott and Matt Fitzpatrick at the tenth and Bryson DeChambeau and Tony Finau on the ninth.
Rahm eventually applied some pressure with gains at the eighth and tenth after well-judged chips, while Noren pulled one back at the seventh.
Scheffler bogeyed the ninth to cut his lead to one and Rahm soon pulled alongside him with another birdie at the 11th, holing nervelessly from 15 feet.
Fitzpatrick chipped in at the 14th for an eagle to move alongside Noren on seven under, and they were joined by JT Poston after three birdies in four holes.
Scheffler, as so often throughout the week, responded to adversity as he followed up his dropped shot with a ten-foot putt for birdie at the tenth to move ahead on his own again - then watched Noren miss his par putt to fall back to six under.
Another birdie at the 14th - the scene of the stunning eagle which sparked Scheffler's charge late on Saturday - took him two clear again and Rahm's par putt at the 16th then slid just by before he found the water off the 17th tee to all but end the contest with a double bogey.
Another followed at the last in a sad end to his round, leaving Scheffler to wrap up victory despite a closing bogey.
Asked about his relative struggles on the front nine, Scheffler said with a smile: "I just kept hitting it left!
"I knew it was going to be a challenging day, finishing off a Major Championship is always difficult. Did a good job staying patient on the front nine, I didn't have my best stuff and I kept myself in it, then I stepped up on the back nine and had a really good nine holes."
English, DeChambeau and Riley shared second place on six under. Jhonattan Vegas, who led after each of the first two rounds, finished in a tie for fifth with Poston and Taylor Pendrith on five under.
Rahm ended up four under in a large group also including Si Woo Kim, who had a Major Championship record 252-yard hole in one during his second round, and United States Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley, with a bogey at the last dropping Noren to three under.
