Marcel Siem's wonderful week on home soil continued as he advanced to the quarter finals of the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play with a 3 and 2 win over Thomas Detry at Golf Resort Bad Griesbach.
The German spoke after his win on Friday of channelling his emotions into his golf in front of a home crowd and he continued his fine form to go set up a last eight clash against Robert Rock.
Defending champion Anthony Wall also moved through with a 5 and 4 win over Jamie Donaldson and he will next face Johan Carlsson, a 4 and 2 winner over Marcus Fraser.
Alexander Knappe made it two Germans in the fourth round and he will face Spaniard Adrian Otaegui, while another Spaniard in Alejandro Cañizares goes head-to-head with England's Chris Paisley.
A heavy storm overnight had dumped 22 millilitres of rain on the Beckenbauer Course with gusting winds of up to 63 miles per hour bringing down a tree and forcing the ninth tee to be moved.
That meant an hour's delay to proceedings in the morning but it was no distraction to Siem.
A par at the second moved him one up before Detry hit back but two pars and a birdie were enough to move Siem three up over the next three holes. A bogey on the next left the door ajar for the Belgian but Siem holed a bunker shot on the ninth and then birdied the tenth, with Detry's win on the 14th merely delaying the inevitable.
"I'm delighted," said Siem. "Solid golf today, I played a lot better on the front nine than yesterday. I didn't hit any funny drives and I played solid. The putting was a lot better as well, I definitely played the best golf so far.
"Robert Rock, he's a great character and Roachy his caddie is a great friend of mine, he was caddying for me before as well. I hope there won't be too much joking around the golf course. I need to keep my game face on."
Florian Fritsch had been enjoying a good week but he failed to make it an all German quarter final, going down 2 and 1 to Rock.
The Englishman won the first and second with pars before birdieing the eighth but Fritsch hit back with eagles on the tenth and 12th. Rock birded the 13th and 14th and while he bogeyed the next, victory was sealed on the penultimate hole.
Wall got off to a flier against Ryder Cup winner Donaldson, birdieing the third, fourth, sixth - with a monster putt - and seventh to sit four up. A birdie on the tenth gave the Welshman hope but Wall won the 12th and 14th.
"I've never seen a storm like it so I knew there would be some problems," said Wall. "I think they've done a great job this morning moving trees and cutting down branches just to allow us to get out there, which is great. Hopefully it can clear up a bit and we can have a great weekend.
"I'm playing well and I feel fit, so who knows, but it should be a great afternoon."
Carlsson and Fraser had been engaged in a nip-and-tuck battle before a late birdie boost sent the Swede through. Carlsson won the fourth, fifth, eighth and tenth but Fraser kept battling back with wins on the sixth, ninth and 11th. A hat-trick of birdies from the 14th then saw Carlsson pull clear.
Ashun Wu had arguably been the outstanding player of the week so far and he continued his fine play early against Paisley, winning the first, third and eighth to go three up. The Englishman produced a brilliant comback on the back nine, though, birdieing the 12th, 15th and 16th and parring the 17th for a one up win.
Cañizares made a birdie on the 16th to take his clash with Ireland's Paul Dunne to extra holes and when the Irishman called a penalty on himself after making the ball move in the rough on the 21st hole it was game over.
Otaegui was nine under for 16 holes on Thursday and found some impressive form again, playing 13 holes in four under as he beat England's Ashley Chesters 6 and 5, winning the first, fifth, sixth, eighth, ninth, tenth and 12th.
England's Tom Lewis had not trailed all week but Knappe took the lead in their clash with a birdie on the tenth. Lewis hit back with a monster putt on the next but Knappe won the 17th - after a brilliant par save - and the last to advance two up.
