Sordet targeting back-to-back victories in South Africa

Clément Sordet is targeting back-to-back wins on the Road to Mallorca when he tees it up in this week’s Limpopo Championship, taking place at Euphoria Golf Club and Koro Creek Golf Club, following his fifth European Challenge Tour victory last week.

The Frenchman triumphed at the SDC Open to claim his first Challenge Tour title since the 2017 NBO Golf Classic Grand Final, a year in which he finished second on the Challenge Tour Rankings behind Finland’s Tapio Pulkkanen, and now sits in fourth position on the 2022 Road to Mallorca Rankings as he looks to regain his DP World Tour card.

The 29-year-old has happy memories of the Limpopo Championship after finishing in a tie for 16th in 2020 as current Road to Mallorca Number One JC Ritchie secured victory at Euphoria Golf Club.

“It always feel amazing to get a win, especially this early in the season,” he said. “My game is feeling good and I’m looking forward to the next few weeks. I think it’s always tough to play the week after a win but I’m trying not to think too much about last week.

“It’s very nice in Limpopo and the weather is really good. I played well here two years ago and it’s good to be back. My plan is to keep the same attitude of staying patient and hopefully it will pay off again this week. The fairways are challenging here and it can get quite windy round here.

“This is my eighth week in South Africa and I have really enjoyed my time here. I am scared of snakes so hopefully I can stay away from the rough this week.”

Sordet is joined in Limpopo by Ritchie, who is eyeing his third victory of the season and subsequently automatic promotion to the DP World Tour. The ten-time Sunshine Tour winner sits in pole position on the Rankings after back-to-back victories at the Bain’s Whisky Cape Town Open and Jonsson Workwear Open.

The Limpopo Championship will begin on Thursday March 31 at Euphoria Golf Club and Koro Creek Golf Club.
