The Swiss Seniors Open kick-starts a run of four events in the space of five weeks on the European Senior Tour, as we profile five golfers to watch at the 21st edition of this magnificent tournament.
André Bossert
After claiming his maiden European Senior Tour title in 2016, André Bossert has started 2017 on a high. In the first two regular events of the season, Bossert has finished seventh and tied second as he goes in search of another victory.
Bossert missed out on a second title at the European Tour Properties Senior Classic as he was pipped to the trophy by just one stroke.
Residing in Zurich, just 100 kilometres from Bad Ragaz, Bossert will be familiar with the venue and is sure to enjoy the bulk of the support at this week’s event as he tees it up on home soil.
Bossert also recorded the lowest ever round at this event in 2015, a nine under par round of 61.
Phillip Price
The Welshman returns to Senior Tour action this week looking to secure his first over-50s title.
Price, a three-time European Tour winner, was a crucial part of Sam Torrance’s 2002 Ryder Cup campaign, securing a crucial point as he beat Phil Mickelson 3&2 in the Sunday singles at The Belfry.
Since joining the Senior Tour he has finished second and fourth and is sure to challenge this week in Bad Ragaz.
James Kingston
The South African made a strong start to the 2017 season, finishing tied third at the Sharjah Senior Golf Masters presented by Shurooq and followed up with a tied 25th at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship.
In 2016, Kingston recorded three top-five finishes in the last five events of the season, including the season ending MCB Tour Championship. His lowest finish in the final six events of 2016 was tied 14th.
Clark Dennis
The Senior Tour Qualifying School graduate has immediately found his feet on the Senior Tour, finishing inside the top 20 in his first two events, including a tied fourth finish at the European Tour Properties Senior Classic at Linna Golf Club in Finland.
Dennis also secured a place at the U.S. Senior Open Championship in Monday qualifying, finishing with a score of seven under par, seven strokes ahead of second place. He was unfortunate not to make the weekend at Salem Country Club, missing the cut by just one stroke.
Tim Thelen
The defending champion will certainly be one to watch this week as he goes in search of his third Swiss Seniors Open title.
Thelen won his first in 2012 with an impressive12 under par finish, and secured his second victory last year when he posted a ten under par total after rallying on the final day.
The American is a five-time Senior Tour champion, and knows what it takes to win on this stunning course in east Switzerland.
