Testing Day On The Brabazon

Welshman Phillip Price takes a one shot lead into the second round of the Benson and Hedges International Open after an opening 69, three under par, in testing conditions during the first day at DeVere The Belfry.

Price, one of the early starters on a cold and blustery day, fired 5 birdies and an eagle in a round that was spoiled only by a double bogey on the last.

Frenchman Jean van de Velde lies in second alongside Germany's Thomas Gogele, one shot off the pace after rounds of 70. The French Ryder Cup player birdied the opening three holes in making a solid start to the tournament.

Defending Champion Colin Montgomerie fired a four over par 76 picking up just one birdie in his round.
