The new £1 climate emergency fee

Golf is a sport that relies on a healthy natural habitat. The climate emergency actively threatens the sport we love.

Through the Tour’s Green Drive initiative, we are working hard to reduce our own carbon footprint and achieve net zero carbon.

But this is a team effort, and we want our fans to support us on this journey. In fact, spectator travel accounts for 45% of a tournaments total carbon footprint – the single largest source of emissions.

Spectators who purchase tickets to DP World Tour tournaments are now given the option to add a voluntary £1 “Climate Emergency Fee” to their total ticket price upon checkout. This money will go to our Climate Emergency Fund, which is helping to finance additional carbon removal projects.

Carbon removal is the process of taking carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and storing it durably to combat climate change, using either natural methods (like planting trees) or technological solutions (like direct air capture). It is essential for achieving net-zero goals by offsetting hard-to-abate emissions, and potentially reversing warming.

The portfolio of projects we work with is carefully screened, assessed and managed by Abatable, environmental market experts who have facilitated the reduction of 55 million tonnes of CO2 over the past five years.

The first project fans are supporting through the Climate Emergency Fund is a programme run by Agreena, who work with farmers across Europe to transition to regenerative agriculture. The principal concept of regenerative agriculture is to avoid disturbance and interference in the farming system and allow crops themselves to replenish soil nutrients and improve soil structure. Your donation will help with early-stage finance and practical support as farmers shift away from intensive farming practices. The result will be healthier soil, better food security, and more resilient farms. You can read more about Agreena here.

We thank you for playing your part.
