Tommy Fleetwood hailed “phenomenal” Great Britain & Ireland Captain Justin Rose after a comprehensive win in the 2025 Team Cup.
Fleetwood’s 3&1 win over Matthieu Pavon marked the winning point as Rose’s team beat Francesco Molinari’s Continental Europe in Abu Dhabi and paid tribute to his close friend’s leadership.
“What an unbelievable group of lads we had this week and an unbelievable captain,” said Fleetwood. “A pleasure to be a part of it, and everybody just played so well.
“I always find it very motivating and inspiring being around the lads in a team environment, and you want to get the best out of yourself for the team. Just happy we got it done this time and I'm sure we'll enjoy it later.
“For me on an individual level, I'm so close to Justin, I think so highly of him. He's one of my closest people out here, and he has been for a long time.
“I think he's been a phenomenal captain. I think seeing his insights on how he views certain situations, how he sees the way the week pans out, I think you're constantly learning off him, and he was great.
“All the lads absolutely loved playing for him. He was an unbelievable captain and I'm glad that we got the win for him this time.”
GB&I made quick work of victory, dominating the early singles matches after going into Sunday with an 11-4 lead, and Rose said after his 3&2 win over Julien Guerrier: “Wow.
“Obviously we were all keen to come out today, I think all the lads earned the right to play for themselves and continue what has been a great week for all of us.
“Unbelievable, so much pink on the leaderboard. It is surprising to go that deep, but every player has come out here with no complacency. It's amazing.”
