A charity pro-am day at the Renaissance Club in Scotland has raised in excess £20,000 for the Tour Players’ Foundation and the Muirfield Group of Riding for the Disabled.
Twenty-one European Tour Members took part in the tournament, including Richard Finch, David Drysdale and the Tour’s latest champion, Simon Dyson, who triumphed at the KLM Open last weekend. Marc Warren, who this week will attempt to emulate his 2007 success in the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, also played in the 18-hole shotgun pro-am, which was followed by a fundraising lunch, combining a silent and live auction hosted by Scottish legend and after dinner speaker, George McNeill.
Welshman Jamie Donaldson set a new course record of 66 in clinching first place in the pro-am, and he was followed by Andrew Coltart (67) and David J Russell (69).
David Drysdale, the touring professional at the Renaissance Club, and his manager Iain Stoddart from Bounce Sports Management were instrumental in bringing the idea of the pro-am to raise funds for the Tour Players’ Foundation and the Muirfield Group of Riding for Disabled was chosen by David and the Club as the local to benefit from the event.
The Muirfield Group of the RDA operates two miles south of the Renaissance Club and 96 people of all ages and with a wide range of disabilities enjoy weekly rides. Twelve instructors, 140 helpers and two physiotherapists – all volunteers – enable people with disabilities to benefit physically and grow in confidence as a result of riding ponies.
The Tour Players’ Foundation is the charitable foundation of The European Tour and its Members. Initiated by the Players and their Partners and established by The European Tour in 2006, The Foundation fundraises for, and makes donations and grants to, voluntary bodies and charities that have the full support of the Members, particularly in those regions around the world where European Tour events are held.
