Tyrrell Hatton looks to make good start towards 2025 Ryder Cup qualification

Tyrrell Hatton is determined to make a strong start in his bid to make next year’s European Ryder Cup team at the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo.

The Englishman is targeting a fourth consecutive Ryder Cup appearance at Bethpage in New York next year, when Europe will defend the trophy they won back in Rome almost 12 months ago.

In a new-look qualification system for the upcoming edition of the Ryder Cup, there is just one points list from which the top six will qualify for the 12-strong team with Captain Luke Donald again having six Captain’s Picks.

“That is certainly one of the reasons why I wanted to play this week,” Hatton said.

“The Ryder Cup is really important to me, and I would love to be on that team next year and this is the perfect week to try and get off to a good start”.

Six-time DP World Tour winner Hatton is playing at the British Masters for the first time in five years and has two top ten finishes in his previous four starts at the long-standing event.

The Englishman, who is making his first regular DP World Tour appearance since the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January, is looking forward to teeing it up at The Belfry for the first time.

“I am excited for the week ahead; it is a historic venue for British golf and European golf, and I am really looking forward to it,” he said.

Earlier this week, Hatton’s Ryder Cup teammates Francesco Molinari and Justin Rose were named as playing captains for the second edition of the Team Cup, which will take place from January 10-12, 2025 in Abu Dhabi.

Ryder Cup skipper Donald will preside over proceedings in the United Arab Emirates as he did in 2023, and Hatton is hoping he can feature in the event in the new year.

“I played it (Team Cup) two years ago when it was the Hero Cup, and it was a fun week.

“And if it is possible I would love to play in it next year so we will see how it plays out but as I said I would like to be a part of it.”

But for now, Hatton has his eyes firmly on playing some good golf over the coming week.

“Anytime you are playing in front of home fans it is always going to be a special week and for me personally I would love to go out there and play really well, make loads of birdies and give the crowd something to cheer about,” he said.

Hatton tees off at 13:10 local time on Thursday alongside 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett and Italian Guido Migliozzi, who won his fourth DP World Tour title earlier this season at the KLM Open.
