Unbelievable job - Justin Rose enjoys dominant Saturday at Team Cup

Great Britain & Ireland Captain Justin Rose hailed his side’s “unbelievable” performance as they took an 11-4 stranglehold on the 2025 Team Cup.

A second successive 3½ -1½ session in the morning foursomes was followed by a 4-1 win in the afternoon to leave Rose’s side needing just two points from Sunday’s ten singles matches.

That is despite Continental Europe making a fast start in all three sessions and Rose hailed the character of his side to turn matches around throughout the first two days’ play.

Asked what pleased him most, Rose said: “Just the way that the leaderboard got more and more and more in our favour as the rounds went on and on and on.

“The lads kind of finished every match off, every match that got tight we either got back to a half or turned them around to win matches. All the tight matches I think we have really maximised over today. That was my message to the guys last night.

“We had a full day of golf on Friday, but it was only 20 percent of the point total. Today was the big day, ten points up for grabs. They have done an unbelievable job just keeping the momentum going.”

Rose is a veteran of Europe’s “Miracle of Medinah” at the 2012 Ryder Cup, when they overcame a 10-6 deficit ahead of the singles to win 14½ -13½, as well as the 16½ -11½ win on home soil in 2014.

“I'm enjoying the moment right now,” he said. “I guess I have to come up with definitely a good message. I think that will be to win the session.

“That was one of (Paul) McGinley's lines in 2014, just keep hitting wave after wave after wave, and so far the lads have done that.

“Obviously for their obvious personal pride, for singles tomorrow, I want to talk about how that changes the dynamic but everyone is going to have personal pride tomorrow.”
