John Vogelpohl is set to make his HotelPlanner Tour debut this week when he tees it up at the Scottish Challenge supported by the R&A.
The American earned an invite into the field in Scotland due to his performances on the Tartan Pro Tour this year, where he tops the order of merit.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable season to date, where he has finished runner up four times and is yet to miss out on a top 20 finish in his nine starts.
“I’m very excited,” he said. “I’ve been looking forwards to it ever since I got the news that I was going to be able to get the invite.
“I played solid early on in the year, I was able to have a nice hot start, and it snowballed from there.
“I haven’t gotten a win yet which is unfortunate, but I’ve played solid golf.”
Vogelpohl is in prime position to graduate from the Tartan Pro Tour this year and earn promotion to the HotelPlanner Tour and follow the footsteps of 2025 graduate Rory Franssen who won the Infortar Estonian Challenge last week.
“I have known Rory for a little while,” he added. “He is a really nice guy and he played amazing last year so to live up to that standard is nice this year so if I can keep it going I will be happy with that.
“I started playing on the Tartan Pro Tour three years ago and it’s been a great tour to be on.”
Looking at this week’s event, Vogelpohl is looking to execute his game plan in Kelso and is hoping that the unpredictable weather in Scotland will hold off enough to not affect his strategy too much.
“I like the setup here. I like the length of the course. If I can get a good game plan and if the weather stays relatively nice, hopefully I’ll be able to execute what I’ve got in mind. I’m excited.”
Vogelpohl is joined by three fellow Tartan Pro Tour invitees in the field at this week’s event, with Michael Stewart, Sam Locke and John Paterson earning spots in the field due to their performances this year.
Vogelpohl forms part of a strong field in Scotland, with 15 of the 16 winners on the 2026 Road to Mallorca teeing it up at SCHLOSS Roxburghe.
