Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed - Day three digest

Everything you need to know from Saturday at Ullna Golf and Country Club.

Whitnell wobbled but stayed on track, Van Dam wrote her name in the history books, Cowley caught flight and everyone was having a jolly good time on day three of the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed.

Here is everything you need to know from Saturday at Ullna Golf and Country Club.

Whitnell stays in front after dramatic day

Dale Whitnell remained in the box seat to claim a maiden DP World World Tour title after a roller coaster day three in Stockholm. The Englishman entered the weekend with a six-shot lead and after seven holes had stretched that to eight despite low scores from some of the early starters. A pair of double-bogeys halted his momentum, however, and he ended the day at 19 under with a four-shot advantage over Germany's Yannik Paul. It is Whitnell's first 54-hole lead on the DP World Tour but he is a winner on the European Challenge Tour and was keeping a cool head ahead of the biggest round of his career to date. "It's hard to go through one round of golf without dropping a shot, never mind, two, three or four, so I just stuck to my guns and had a gameplan and tried to execute it," he said. "It wasn't a bad day, it wasn't exactly ideal but it was more than acceptable."

Van Dam leads female charge

It would be fair to say that the men in the field had the better of it over days one and two but on Moving Day the women came charging back to set up the prospect of a second consecutive female winner at this event. Leading the pack was Anne van Dam, who came home in 30 as she made seven birdies in her last ten holes in a brilliant 63. “It was just a very good day, overall," she said. "I didn’t really miss a shot, I maybe had one bad shot. I hit a bunch of fairways and greens. I think I missed one green, so I had a lot of chances and hit a couple really close and holed a couple of nice putts. Overall, very happy with my game today. This morning I was looking and there were only four girls in front of me and 24 guys, so I knew I had a lot of catching up to do."

Eagles send Cowley flying

Before today Gabriella Cowley had made just three eagles all season - when she holed a 14-footer at the 15th she had made three in one round. The Englishwoman came home in 29 to sign for a 64 and said: "I have never had three eagles in a round. I don’t think I’ve had three eagles all year to be honest! So, to have them in one round was great."

Sagstrom loving home support

Madelene Sagstrom played with the great Annika Sorenstam on days one and two so she should be used to playing with big crowds by now. But the home favourite admitted it was still a special experience as she carded a brilliant, bogey-free 64, birdieing five of her last seven holes in the process. “I have never had this experience before because I don’t have this when I play in America and I haven’t had it when I have played in Europe," she said. "Playing on home soil in front of home crowds, I have so many people from my home club and home town. It’s crazy when they cheer the most for me. It’s a lovely experience and I’m super grateful everyone is coming out and watching this." This certainly got them cheering.

Fun in the sun

From diving to dancing, the fans were loving their day in the Stockholm sunshine.
