Westwood soars into contention

Lee Westwood started his final round with back-to-back birdies to join Bradley Dredge in a share of the lead at the Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy.

Welshman Dredge and Paul Casey went into the final round with a one shot lead at Doha Golf Club on ten under par, but Westwood leapfrogged both with his flying start.

Dredge then birdied the par four second to join The Race to Dubai champion out in front.

Casey remained one off the pace on ten under, while Brett Rumford sat nine under – the Australian starting with two birdies before handing a shot back at the third.

Still in the chase were former European Number Ones Robert Karlsson and Retief Goosen, Ryder Cup star Oliver Wilson and defending champion Alvaro Quiros.
