A putting master-class was key to Danny Willett’s victory last week at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, where he claimed his fourth European Tour title. The Englishman needed to birdie the last to win, and he duly did so from 15 feet to finish one shot clear of compatriot Andy Sullivan and Spain’s Rafa Cabrera-Bello.
Willett averaged just 27 putts per round, the fourth best in field and, using an Odyssey, Versa WBW 1W led the field in putts per GIR with 1.536.
Averaging 297 yards off the tee, the Englishman was the tenth longest in the driving distance category using a Callaway, XR 16 10.5° Driver.
Willett’s decision to carry two utility irons instead of a three or four iron paid off as he hit 77.8% of greens in regulation, the 19th best in field.
When he did find himself in trouble, Willett’s short game was sharp, helping him save par five times from the six occasions he found sand (83%).
