What's in the bag: Michael Hollick's winning set-up at the BMW International Open

After a series of putter changes in recent events, Michael Hollick reverted to the short stick he used at the outset of his rookie season on the DP World Tour to help him claim a breakthrough victory.

At the age of 39, the South African claimed a memorable maiden title on golf's global tour at the BMW International Open in Germany on Sunday.

In the 19th start of his debut campaign, Hollick switched back to the 2025 Scotty Cameron Studio Style Squareback 2 putter which had been in his bag for his first ten starts through to the culmination of the International Swing at the Joburg Open.

Since then, he has used the Scotty Cameron Tour Only Squareback, L.A.B Golf OZ.1i HS, Scotty Cameron Tour Only 12 and the 2026 TaylorMade Spider Tour X as he sought a return to the form that saw him register three top tens in his first four starts at the end of last year.

The latest move in short stick had the desired impact as he topped the SG: Putting statistics for players who made the cut at Golfclub München Eichenried, gaining 2.16 strokes on the field.

Across the European Swing, he has made other changes to his bag:

• Switched to the Titleist GST3 driver from the Titleist GT3 driver at the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship

• Switched to Titleist GTS3 three and five wood from Titleist GT2 three wood and five wood at the Soudal Open

Prior to then, on his home continent at the Magical Kenya Open presented by absa, he switched to the Vokey SM11 lob wedge from Vokey SM10.

What has remained consistent however are his irons, using the 2025 model of Titleist T100s.

Under pressure, he produced two fantastic five irons to set up his dramatic birdie-eagle finish for victory in Germany which lifted him 200 spots in the Official World Golf Ranking to a career-high 148th.

Reacting to his win, he said: "It's amazing, honestly. I've just given myself and my family such a good opportunity, so really looking forward to [the rest of the year].

"Four years ago, I put the clubs in the cupboard and started coaching, did a full year of coaching full-time and played like ten events on the Sunshine Tour, played quite well but didn't get into any of the big events.

"Then started 2024 by winning the Zimbabwe Open and started finding my feet again and won another two tournaments and then started the season nicely here.

"The first year is tough, it's all the unknown, you're playing your heart out to keep your card and give yourself a chance next year, but here we are."
