Mikko Ilonen’s three-stroke victory at the Nordea Masters was built on a potent combination of accurate iron play and solid putting at Bro Hoff Slot GC.
The Finn’s impressiveGenworth Statisticsfrom last week saw him ranked third in Greens in Regulation with an impressive 83.3 per cent success rate. Add to that an average of 1.65 Putts per Greens in Regulation and you have a winning formula.
As is required of any European Tour champion nowadays, Ilonen also drove the ball well en route to victory in Sweden, compiling a Driving Accuracy of 69.2 per cent.
With anaverage of 27.9 per round, Ilonen has putted well enough throughout the season to be statistically ranked the seventh best putter on Tour.
Having improved his Greens in Regulation and putting figures significantly at Bro Hoff Slot, it was no surprise to see Ilonen pick up a third European Tour title, having twice posted top three finishes this season at the Volvo China Open and Trophee Hassan II.
Victory in Sweden moves the 33 year old Finn to fifth in the Race to Dubai, having never finished higher than 34thback in 2007, which was also the season he picked up his previous two European Tour titles.
