The Austrian fired a brilliant 65 to get to 12 under on Friday before storms arrived in mid-afternoon at Genzon Golf Club, leaving half the field having to return to complete their rounds.
England's Ross Fisher was the biggest mover upon the resumption, signing for a 65 of his own to join the group in second alongside James Morrison who carded a 66, Grégory Bourdy with a 69 and Bubba Watson who completed a 70.
Dylan Frittelli and Thorbjørn Olesen were also at eight under having both signed for rounds of 68 on Friday.
Fisher has been in a rich vein of form of late, securing top five finishes in the WGC - Mexico Championship and WGC - Dell Technologies Match Play as he looks for a first European Tour title in three years.
Having birdied the first and sixth on Friday, Fisher added a further gain on the ninth before he really came to life on the back nine. A hat-trick of gains from the 11th catapulted him up the leaderboard before he added another on the 17th to join the group four off the lead.
Countryman Morrison was also impressive on the way in after starting on the tenth, with a birdie-birdie finish putting him in the mix.
The 32 year old turned in 34 with three birdies and a bogey in his first four holes on Friday but then made further advances on the fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth.
Frenchman Bourdy bogeyed the fifth after starting the day two under for his round but then reeled off four birdies in a row from the seventh to get within two of the leader before bogeys on the 12th and 16th stalled his momentum.
Watson had made a single birdie on the second in his first five holes on Friday and struggled to find any real momentum on Saturday morning.
The American made three birdies in four holes from the seventh - with a bogey on the eighth - and the dropped another shot on the 13th.
Scot Richie Ramsay had signed for a 68 on Friday to sit at seven under and he was joined by Dean Burmester.
The South African was two over for his round when he bogeyed the eighth but bounced back with birdies on the ninth, tenth, 11th and 15th in a 70.

American David Lipsky was the third man to sign for a 65 on Saturday with birdies on the second, sixth, ninth, tenth, 11th, 13th and 17th moving him to six under.
Swede Alexander Björk and Scot Duncan Stewart both completed rounds of 67 to also sit at six under alongside George Coetzee, Scott Jamieson and Jordan Smith.
Finn Mikko Korhonen made the 12th hole-in-one of the season when his tee-shot went in from 220 yards on the 16th, winning him a BYD Tang 100 SUV.
"I hit a four iron. It was good, I didn’t see it go in but I found the ball in the hole so it was nice," he said.
"It is amazing. I actually took one club extra this morning because it was quite chilly so I got lucky there.
"It’s really nice, BYD is a hybrid car I guess. It’s very nice they present this kind of car here in China to help the environment and sponsor the tournament.
"I ended up making the cut and winning a car – not bad!"
