Winner's Interview - Fredrik Jacobson

FREDRIK JACOBSON, ROUND FOUR 72, TOTAL 283 (-5)

Q. How are you feeling?

A. That was really sweaty because it was very much up and down but luckily no one ran away with it. It seemed like I stayed at four under for a long time and that I was about to slip down to two under at one stage and that might have been too many away but I fought back.

Q. And the feeling when you chipped in again?

A. It was a tremendous feeling. It was one of those shots that you might have had a chance to make it but in the circumstances you are not sure whether you are going to make it or not. But it came up perfect. I used a 58 degree sand iron, the same for the other two chip ins.

Q. Are you going to frame it at home?

A. Probably

Q. Have you had three pitch ins in one round before?

A. Not three chip ins but I chipped in and made two full shots in a round once but not three chip ins.

Q. Did the win in Hong Kong give you confidence?

A. It certainly did for coming into the last round. I didn;’t feel like I am pushing myself too hard and I feel like I don’;t have to win because I;ve done it. When you get the chance to win having finished second five or six times it does get to you a little bit, now it was a bit more comfortable even though I was nervous a little bit on the last few holes.

Q. Did you feel a little lucky to win at only five under?

A. That’s the way it goes a little bit in golf. I had the same opportunity after the first round and if I had shot the 69 then in the good weather I might have been a bit more comfortable than I was. I didn’t think it wsa going to happen yesterday. I thought two under each day might be good enough and I thought eight under would have a good chance of winning.

Q. Exceed all expectations with your wrist?

A. yes, the main thing was for it to hold up and to be able to play four rounds, to make the cut. Because I haven’t played a full tournament since December I was quite keen to get a full tournament int with the busy part of the season coming up.

Q. Are you surprised you won then?

A. Yes of course I am a bit surprised, I didn;’t expect that mujch of myself, I just wanted to enjoy the week and get started again. The way the swing felt and the puttingstroke felt a bit dodgy as well without practice. But my head was on and I kept gpoing when I made a mistake and that was the key not to get too down on yourself if you made a mistake or hit it out of bounds.

Q. Did you start to worry how bad the wrist might be?

A. yes I did. I am still a little worried about it because it is still not 100%, I still feel it and I am still doing exercises for it. It is one of those things when you don’t know what has caused it, it is different if you do something and you are told it will be six weeks and you will be fine. It started in the pro-am in Singapore and just got worse and worse.

Q. When you lost the play off in Scotland did you think it was never going to happen?

A. Yes it did enter my mind. That one and the one in Ireland, all the rest I felt I had done all I could to finish second but those two you start to think about it and you know you are going to be really nervous the next time you have a chance to win. I know guys out here who are really good players and haven’t won for ten or 15 years and I didn’t want it to go that way.

Q. Are you going to rest now.

A. Play next week and take the next two weeks off.
