Wood brimming with confidence for Volvo China Open return

Chris Wood is travelling to China full of confidence as he searches for the fourth European Tour success of his career at the Volvo China Open.

The Englishman has not had a top ten finish since his tie for sixth at the Lyoness Open powered by Sporthilfe Cashback Card in June last year, which came two weeks after his last win on the European Tour at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Wood has not played since missing the cut at the Masters Tournament earlier this month but he believes he can make a charge at the Topwin Golf and Country Club this week.

He said: "It's a good time of year for me to be playing. I've played the desert swing and a few events in the States and its easy to sort of fall out of the rhythm of playing, so to come out here for the Volvo China Open and the GolfSixes next week should be good.

"I've been playing alright but just not really scoring, hence why I need to keep playing. I have had a couple of weeks off since the Masters and practised hard at home, so I am ready for this week.

"When you have been playing well but not scoring, you really feel like you start to show a bit of form. You are certainly eager for Thursday to come and test it out really, to see if you can post some scores because I've been playing the golf but not making the scores."

Wood hopes he can better his season-best finish of joint-11th at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in February after missing the last two events at the Trophée Hassan II and the Shenzen International last week.

The 29 year old returns to an event he did not play last season and only boasts a career-best of tied for 31st at the Volvo China Open, and he knows that if he is not on form, then he will get punished in Beijing.

He added: "I think the greens are the trickiest part – they are so severe – you know golf courses in China tend to be quite generous off the tee but there are some really severe slopes this week.

"I think the pin positions have to be quite close to each other for the four days but it's in great shape."
