Chris Gotterup stuns field to climb to summit, historic aces at par fours were nearly made and eyebrows were raised after Scottie Scheffler's birdie putt.
Everything you need to know from the second round at the Renaissance Club.
Gotterup ties course record to lead in Scotland
The American was a relative unknown in Europe on his arrival to North Berwick, but he grabbed the attention of golf fans with his sensational 61 on Friday to set the clubhouse lead of 11 under. The 25-year-old began his birdie blitz with a 45 footer at the second before adding another gain at the next, followed by a hat-trick from the fifth. When he rolled in from 30 feet at the ninth, he reached the turn in just 29. His seventh birdie came at the tenth and when he picked up another two shots from the 13th, he was at 11 under. Gotterup needed two more birdies for the magical 59, but he remained blemish-free as he parred his way home for a 61, which tied the course record. "I'll take a nine-under any day," Gotterup said. "Relatively stress-free for the most part, which is always nice. Other than 16, I think I played really well today. I didn't do much wrong on 16. Just didn't make a birdie on a hole that you'd like to. Obviously I found a little something out there today, hopefully just keep it rolling this weekend."
Laporta nearly aces a par four!
Italian Francesco Laporta had a contender for shot of the tournament with his stunning tee shot at the par-four fifth, and was inches from a potential shot of the year. So close!
And so does Corey Connors
It was a different route for the Canadian, but he was equally as close as Laporta's exquisite tee shot.
Bob's roaring support
We've seen, and heard, this before. Huge support for the defending champion, who squeezed into the weekend on the cut line with thanks to this birdie at the Stadium Hole in East Lothian.
Listen to the roar!!

Smith's stunner
You know it's a shock when the player who holed is as stunned as the patrons. Take a bow, Jordan Smith.
Eyebrows raised with Scheffler's birdie putt
World Number One Scottie Scheffler drained a huge birdie putt at the 13th, but that wasn't even the most impressive part! Eyebrows were raised...
