Rai sealed his maiden Major title at the US PGA Championship on Sunday with a masterclass in composure at Aronimink Golf Club, becoming the first Englishman since ‘Long’ Jim Barnes in 1919 to lift the Wanamaker Trophy.

The new World Number 15 entered the final day two shots off the lead and was one over through eight holes, before an eagle on the ninth set in motion a back nine 31 – including a 68-foot putt for birdie on the 17th – that sealed a three-shot win over Jon Rahm and Alex Smalley.

The 31-year-old from Wolverhampton now returns to the famous Wentworth Club from September 17-20, 2026, aiming for a third win on the Rolex Series following his successes in Scotland in 2020 and Abu Dhabi last November.

He joins a stellar field including fellow Major winner Rory McIlory and the past three winners –  Alex Noren, Billy Horschel and Ryan Fox – after finishing T2, T4, T3 in his last three BMW PGA Championship appearances.

Rai said: “It’s definitely been a journey to get to the point where I was standing with the Wanamaker Trophy in my hands on Sunday, and now I’m looking forward to returning to the BMW PGA Championship as a Major winner.

“It’s always a pleasure to play on home soil, and I’ve certainly had some good results at Wentworth Club in the last few years, so I look forward to challenging again this year.”

Taking place just outside Central London, the BMW PGA Championship offers a thrilling week of world-class golf, a star-studded Celebrity Pro-Am, live entertainment on the Showstage, and much more in the atmospheric Spectator Village.
